CWC tells doc couple to pay minor girl

The Child Welfare Committee (CWC) has asked Dr Sanjay and Sumita Verma, the couple accused of locking up their minor maid at their house in Dwarka and leaving for a holiday in Thailand, to pay minimum wages to the girl.

The Child Welfare Committee (CWC) has asked Dr Sanjay and Sumita Verma, the couple accused of locking up their minor maid at their house in Dwarka and leaving for a holiday in Thailand, to pay minimum wages to the girl. The 13-year-old girl was produced before the CWC on Thursday.

"Since the girl was not paid for the work she was doing, the CWC has asked the couple to pay her salary for one year," a source said.

Sources added that the girl's mother was brought to Delhi by Mahadev, who had also brought the girl to Delhi from her native village. Mahadev was arrested later but his associates are still absconding.

"The amount has not been decided yet but it will be calculated on minimum wages basis. The girl has worked there for nearly a year," the source added.
