Daler sang the "objectionable" songs at a public performance in Ludhiana on October 27, which was attended by several local politicians.

In his complaint, the singer accused the President of Congress Legal cell at Ludhiana, Rana Harjas Deep Singh, of causing disrepute to him by giving a statement to a national daily on October 31 in which the latter threatened to drag him to court.

"Due to publication of the report, he suffered disrepute and indignity while his image, prestige and popularity was also lowered in the eyes of the public at large," counsel for Daler said.

The singer claimed he did not name any Congress leaders or former Chief Minister Captain Amrinder Singh or any of his minister colleagues while singing the "objectionable" songs.

Mehandi, a resident of Nilothi Extension in West Delhi, has faced criminal case for his alleged role in human trafficking about four years back during the regime of Captain Amrinder Singh.

The singer alleged the Congress leader misinterpreted his songs as an attack on his colleagues and issued the damaging statement against him.

Metropolitan Magistrate Devender Kumar Jangala, taking note of his complaint, fixed December 12 as the date for examining evidence.
