Day after he’s saved by friends, AIIMS student hangs himself
On Sunday, 24-year-old Bal Mukund Bharti, a final year MBBS student at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), consumed some pills in his hostel room in a bid to end his life. He was saved by his friends.

On Wednesday, Bharti hanged himself to death in the same room.
A resident of Sagar in Madhya Pradesh, who had failed to clear one of his papers on community medicine, Bharti was reportedly depressed.
Bharti was found hanging around 5 p.m. on Wednesday in hostel-II, room number 22, several hours after he had taken the extreme step. No suicide note was found on him.
“He had been under acute depression for the last five to six months. He was a loner and didn’t have many friends,” said a student, unwilling to be identified.
The police said the AIIMS authorities had hushed up the matter when Bharti had attempted suicide on Sunday.
“The authorities should have taken care. He should not have been left alone,” said a senior police officer.
“We had counselled him extensively on Sunday itself. We thought the matter was sorted out. He had apologised also. We did not know he would do it again. He sounded so convincing that he will not do it again,” said an official at AIIMS.
“The exact time of his death will be known only when we get his post mortem reports,” said an AIIMS official.
