Profession: Before joining politics in 1989, Chandila was a non-technical supervisor in Delhi Development Authority’s engineering department. He quit in 1986. Chandila insists he worked just for time pass. “I belong to a zamindar family and do not need to work for money,” he said.

Education: After Class XII, he did a diploma in engineering.

Political career: The Chandilas holds a unique record in Delhi’s political arena. Chandila and his wife contested municipal polls in 1997 as Independent candidates and won. They won again in 2002. Son and daughter-in-law also contested and won municipal polls in 2007. Chandila contested the 2003 assembly election on a BJP ticket and won from Vishnu Garden. He will contest from the same seat on a Congress ticket this time.

Family: Wife Dhanwati is a municipal councilor. They have three daughters and a son.

Cars: Chandila travels in a Mahindra Jeep or a Maruti 800. His family owns a Mercedes, Ford Endeavour and a Tata Safari.
