A meeting to review the online system was held by the DDA on Tuesday and a decision is expected to be taken in the next meeting scheduled on April 25.

Before January, the DDA allowed people to meet senior officials on public hearing days on every Monday and Thursday. With the new online system, it allows no one to enter the office and has instead deputed counsellors to help people track their cases or grievances online.

In case of specific queries or complaints, people are given forms to write down their issue and are then given a unique ID and password, which helpsin tracking files online on the DDA website.

The system, however, has been facing some technical glitches, leaving the public hassled. The DDA is now gathering figures on how many cases have been taken up online and is reviewing the whole system to address areas of concern.

“The idea behind an online system is to have complete transparency in public dealing and bring accountability. However, it has been found that people feel more comfortable talking to senior officials directly,” said a DDA official who didn’t wish to be named.

“We are trying to study the system and identify the areas of concern to ensure transparency and accountability,” said DDA spokesperson Neemo Dhar.
