The tall claims of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) about providing healthy and hygienic food to its students studying in primary schools in the city seem to have fallen flat. A dead rat was found in a mid-day meal of a school in New Kondli area of Shahdara. On Thursday around 10 a.m., while inspecting the mid-day meal sent by an NGO, a rat was found floating in the vessel containing dal.

“We saw a dead rat floating in the dal and immediately informed the NGO inc- harge of providing the food that later replaced it. We have written to the deputy education officer,” said a MCD teacher requesting anonymity.

This is happening at a time when the budget of mid-day meal was increased from Rs. 2 per child to Rs. 2.50 by the MCD to provide nutritious and hygienic food to students.

“An inquiry will be conducted in this matter immediately and those found guilty will be punished,” said Municipal Commissioner K.S. Mehra.
