The Delhi Pradesh Taxi Union and Delhi Autorickshaw Sangh said they would sit on an indefinite dharna outside the residence of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, if the ruling AAP failed to rein in app-based taxi services in the national capital within a week’s time.

“App-based taxis are affecting our business. Despite the fact that their operation is illegal, the government is not taking any action against them. We want all app-based taxis to be brought under fare-metre system so that we have a fair competition,” Rajendra Soni, General Secretary of both unions, said.

“If government doesn’t introduce fare-metre system for these taxis within one week, drivers of autorickshaw and yellow-black taxis will sit on an indefinite dharna outside the residence of the Chief Minister,” he added.

Around 82,000 autorickshaws and 13,000 yellow-black taxis are at present plying in the national capital.
