The victim's family told police that Neeraj was driving the scooty of one of his friends on Tuesday evening, and met with a minor accident in which the vehicle was damaged.

"After the accident, his friend told him that he ought to pay Rs 8,000 as compensation. He was threatened, and told that a complaint would be made to his family if he did not pay up.
