Delhi Metro asked to hand over roads by July 31

The Delhi Metro today was asked by the city government to hand over various roads under its control by July 31 so that beautification and upgradation works can be completed before the Commonwealth Games.

At a meeting to review Commonwealth Games projects, Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit underlined the importance of proper maintenance and upkeep of roads in view of the Oct 3-14 Games and said that Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) will have to put in extra efforts to complete its work on and around the roads.

DMRC chief E Sreedharan, who was present at the meeting, assured that all roads would be handed over in time so that the concerned agencies undertake development of footpaths, carriageways and drainage works.

Sreedharan said the Metro would adhere to the Aug 10 deadline for removing debris. Dikshit, according to an official, stressed upon the need for giving priority to work on roads leading to Games venues.

Public Works Department Minister Raj Kumar Chauhan, meanwhile, inspected different areas in south Delhi and asked officials to speed up work of streetscaping, roads, footpaths, signages and planting of trees.
