The incident was reported from New Kondli's A-block and the baby, identified as Dhanlaxmi, died of dog bite injuries. A case has been registered against the owner of the dog and investigations are on.

A senior police officer said one Ravi Solanki, a 9-year-old boy who lives in the neighborhood took Dhanlaxmi from his mother Chitra Gupta on the pretext of playing with her.

"Dhanlaxmi was in Solanki's arms when another neighbour arrived there with his dog. Solanki got scared and the neighbour unleashed his dog on him. The boy left the baby on the ground and ran away. The dog, instead of running behind the boy, attacked the baby and bit her. He then dragged her for about 100 meters on the road," said a senior police officer, quoting allegations by Dhanlaxmi's father, Mukesh Gupta.

Some people rescued the baby from the dog's clutches. They rushed her to a private hospital in Noida where she succumbed to her injuries, added the officer.
