Delhi Police write to MHA on airport’s hospitality district
The Delhi Police have written to Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), requesting them to intervene in the matter of the upcoming hospitality district near Delhi airport. The move comes after Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) failed to submit documents for security clearance of this district.

In its reply to the Delhi Police, DIAL had said that they had clearance from the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Airport Authority of India (AAI) for the hospitality district.
DIAL had many plans for the 45-acre district, which included construction of hotels of all ranges with plot sizes ranging from 1.6acres to a 7.7acre plot for a huge conference hotel on the approach road to T3.
Delhi Police had objected to the project, saying such high rises near the runway posed security threats. After Delhi Police’s objection, the Bureau for Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) formed a committee to assess the project.
“In its reply, DIAL has claimed they have clearance from civil aviation ministry, AAI, Delhi Urban Arts Commission (DUAC) and environment ministry. None of these agencies have the right to give security clearances. So we have again written a letter, asking for documents for security clearance,” RA Sanjeev, DCP (airport), said. Meanwhile, CISF has requested involvement of Intelligence Bureau to review the situation.
In its letter to the MHA, Delhi Police have said that the hospitality district is coming up within the 115-200 metre zone of the runway and the land-owning agency, DIAL, doesn’t have any security clearance.
“The MHA is likely to call a meeting regarding this. DIAL may have taken clearance from the point of view of development, but they need to think of the security aspect too,” said a senior police officer,
Sources said that Delhi Police has conducted two security audits before conducting the recent one and had intimated DIAL. It had planned to raise R2,750 crore from the hospitality district.
