The two constables recorded videos of traffic personnel taking ‘challan’ money with a watch camera and blackmailed them by threatening to upload video on the internet or show it to their superiors.

Neeraj Kumar, 25, of Shivaji Park in Gurgaon and Om Prakash, 25, of Rajokri in New Delhi, were caught after assistant sub-inspector (traffic) Ram Kishan told his senior officials that the two constables were demanding Rs 5 lakh from him in return for keeping a video secret. Kishan said they recorded the video when he was taking ‘challan fee’.

“We arrested the duo from MDI Chowk on Mehrauli-Gurgaon Road on Thursday night when they came to take money from the complainant,” said Brijender Hooda, SHO of the Civil Lines police station.

The constables trapped the Gurgaon traffic cops by jumping traffic signals on their bike. As one would pay the ‘challan’, the other would record a video, Hooda said. Later, the accused blackmailed the traffic cop, threatening him that the video will prove that he took a bribe.

The accused said they had taken Rs 25,000, Rs 30,000 and Rs 80,000 from three policemen. They were booked extortion and other charges. The were sent to two-day police remand on Friday.
