The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) wrested the power at DUSU from their arch-rivals National Students Union of India (NSUI) in the polls, results of which were announced on Saturday.

ABVP won three seats — president vice-president and joint secretary while NSUI’s Karishma Thakur was voted the secretary.

“During the past few months, we have observed that students had raised concerns over the introduction of FYUP. We plan to address their problems. It has led to several problems, including the content of foundation courses to lack of books,” said Aman Awana, the new DUSU president.

“We have decided to demand remedial classes for students, along with making available the books required for the foundation courses at college libraries. We will also ensure that students get the laptops that had been promised to them by the varsity,” Awana said.

As the students’ union sole female representative, Thakur promised a safer campus for women.“We will ensure that there is constant police vigil after college hours. We are also demanding enhancing CCTV surveillance and Metro feeder buses,” said Thakur.
