Residents of Aya Nagar blocked the Mehrauli Gurgaon road around 8.30am on Tuesday throwing traffic out of gear.

“There was no power supply between 1.30 pm to 8.30 pm. It came back around 9 and again there was no supply from 10am onwards. We are still waiting for the electricity supply said Prateek Malla, resident, Aya Nagar.

“The situation is becoming worse day by day and the customer care service is good for nothing.”

A similar scene was witnessed in Safdarjang Enclave where angry residents blocked the main road to the colony. As the situation got out of hand traffic police hand to intervene in the matter.

“The power demand on Tuesday was 4668 MW. The availability of power from generating stations within Delhi was 1094 MW. Availability from central sector stations was to the tune of the 2397 MW and through bilateral arrangements was 1435 MW,” said a power department official.

With power cuts registering an increase with sudden rise in mercury, Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit has asked power distribution companies to ensure swift action on any complaint of power cut.

In a review meeting of the power department, Dikshit said there was ample power available with the Capital to cater to the demand. Asking distribution companies not to take complaints lightly in the sweltering heat, she stressed the need of urgent solution for local faults.

Dikshit said most instances of outages were due to local faults. Dikshit directed the three distribution companies to make special arrangements to respond to such complaints, especially during night.
