Raising the issue during Zero Hour, Shiv Sena member Chandrakant Khaire said the matter was serious and that the Finance Ministry and the Home Ministry should act fast.

BSP member Iliyas Azmi was sharply critical of Air India, saying that the national carrier "failed" to provide proper travel facilities to the Haj pilgrims, who were put to "huge inconvenience".

Demanding action against the Air India staff at Jeddah, he said the national carrier made some pilgrims wait for 24 hours at the airport there by "delaying" the flights.

Basudeb Acharia (CPI-M) raised the issue of a proposed strike next month of five lakh coal workers demanding a substantial hike in minimum wage. He said that with the Government giving coal blocks to private parties, the plight of coal workers was worsening.

Labour Minister Oscar Fernandes assured the member that officers of his Ministry would deal with the matter of agitating coal workers.

Alok Mehta (RJD) said 10 engineering colleges and an equal number of medical colleges should be set up in Bihar where the students are facing a lot of difficulties due to paucity of such institutions.
