Coming down heavily on property owners who had carried out illegal construction, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi's (MCD) south zone demolished 11 properties on Thursday.

The MCD targetted DDA flats in Vasant Kunj, and builder flats in Chattarpur, Krishna Park in south Delhi's Devli, Begumpur and Malviya Nagar.
Two flats in Vasant Kunj, three properties in Krishna Park and Chattarpur and two properties in Begumpur faced the hammer of the civic agency's building department, which carried out the demolition with the help of the local police.
"A number of property owners had carried out illegal construction on the first and third floor. We demolished all the illegal areas. Additional rooms had been illegally constructed in several DDA flats. We demolished them too. In addition, we also sealed illegal floors and properties in south zone," said a senior MCD official.
At many places, the building department took action on under-construction properties. According to the MCD, many of its zones have already uploaded details of properties booked for illegal construction.
"Every prospective buyer should check the website to ensure they don't buy illegally constructed properties. Also, the builder mafia constructs buildings without a plan. Hence those buildings can be demolished at any time," added the official.
