The Met department has forecast a fresh spell of dense fog at the airport, which had been enjoying some reprieve from it for over a week.

"A heavy spell of intense foggy conditions have been building up at IGI airport. There could be very dense fog conditions from Friday night till Saturday morning," said RK Jenamani, director-in-charge, IGIA met unit.

Dense fog enveloped the airport from 10.30 pm onwards on Thursday night, resulting in the diversion of four flights to Jaipur, Kolkata and Bangalore.

As a result, several morning flights were also delayed for a duration of between one and two hours.

Runway visibility dropped to 75 metres and hovered between 75 and 200 metres between 11.30pm and 6.30am.

Consequently, low visibility procedures were implemented at the airport between 10.30pm on Thursday and 7am on Friday.

A total of 119 flights were operated during this period using the Instrument Landing System (ILS). Out of these, 52 flights were operation using the Category (CAT) III ILS, which helps in safe landing during near zero visibility conditions.
