Depressed woman jumps from flyover

A 21-year-old girl allegedly attempted suicide by jumping from Dwarka flyover in southwest Delhi's Palam area on Tuesday. Police said she was in depression because of some family dispute.

According to police, the incident was reported to them around 5.30pm through a call made to the police control room.

The victim, identified as Geeta, sustained severe injuries and is undergoing treatment at Divya Nursing Home in Dwarka. Her condition is stated to be critical.

During inquiry, a senior police officer said, eyewitnesses told them that Geeta was standing on the flyover and was talking to someone over the phone. "A few minutes later, she climbed the railing of the flyover and jumped. She suffered multiple injuries and was immediately rushed to the nearby Divya Nursing Home," the officer said.

"Apparently, Geeta was unhappy with her family members because they had fixed her marriage. It has been learnt that she was in love with someone else," police said.

Geeta is a resident of Sadh Nagar in Palam Colony. She is pursuing her graduation from correspondence and also works at a private shop. Her father, who has a furniture business in Dwarka, told police that his daughter could not have attempted suicide as she was not under any kind of depression.

However, police are investigating the matter from all angles and are waiting to record Geeta's statement.
