The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has approved the proposed 9.71-km Metro extension from Dilshad Garden to New bus-stand in Ghaziabad, sources said.

The line, which will cater to more than 87,000 commuters over an elevated section on GT road, will provide improved connectivity to Delhi for the residents of Shalimar Garden, Lajpat Nagar, Rajendra Nagar, Raj Nagar Extension and Mohan Nagar.
"The matter was discussed at length in the board meeting on Friday and the DMRC has given in-principle nod to the proposed extension of the metro line to New Bus Stand in Ghaziabad," a senior DMRC official said.
However, the official spokesperson of the DMRC said the move can be confirmed once the minutes of the board meeting are released.
The cost of the project is estimated to be around Rs 1,770 crore, of which the major share — Rs 1,116 crore — will be borne by the UP government.
Ghaziabad Development Authority officials confirmed the move.
"We received reliable communications from Delhi and the DMRC officials about the approval by the chief minister and also by the DMRC board. The matter was pending for several years and things have now begun to take shape. The metro will soon be a reality in Ghaziabad too," said Santosh Kumar Yadav, GDA vice-chairman.
