“We want a settlement of the issue. I have met the Haryana chief secretary and the Union labour commissioner. Armed guards should be immediately disarmed. It is illegal. If not, workers too will tend to retaliate with arms and I will be with them,” Dasgupta told HT.

The senior Left leader demanded “reasonable compensation” for the deceased and also sought the Prime Minister’s
intervention.

The strike paralysed work at Honda Motorcycle and Scooter, Rico Auto and Sunbeam.

AITUC said Rico workers would continue with the strike, though workers from other factories would resume work from today.
