The truck hit the Qualis head on and pushed it for some distance before coming to a halt. The three were killed on the spot, while four other employees travelling had a miraculous escape. The truck driver fled from the spot after abandoning the truck.

The crash was reported around 4.45 a.m. near the Delhi end of the DND Flyway. Those who died in the mishap have been identified as Navneet Kaur (24), Noor Babu and driver Fateh Chand (47). Both Navneet and Noor were employees of HCL, Noida. Navneet had been recently promoted at work. Those injured have been identified as Lokesh, Dheeraj, Sandeep and Rajesh. The call centre employees were on their way home after the night shift.

“When they were about to get down the DND Flyway, a truck coming from the wrong side rammed into the Qualis. Three bodies were badly crushed in the accident,” said a senior police officer. The cab driver hardly got any time to react as he was driving at a speed of 120 kmph.

“One of the employees in the cab said all they could hear was shrieks. The cab had been crushed beyond recognition and the bodies of those dead were badly entangled. He told us that he had even asked the driver to slow down but to no avail,” said one of the relatives of Navneet.

Police said they received a call from the DND security guards that a crash has taken place. “The truck was coming from Sarai Kale Khan on way to Noida. We have traced the owner and would arrest the driver soon,” said the officer.

While Navneet was sitting behind the driver, Noor was sitting on the passenger seat. “The trio bore the maximum brunt of the crash. Their bodies were badly disfigured,” said the officer.

Angry employees of HCL even blocked the flyway for some time on Saturday morning.

Police said they have traced the driver of the truck and have registered a case of rash and negligent driving at New Friends Colony.
