The DTC has decided to buy standard floor buses to run on various routes in the National Capital Region and other cities in the neighbouring states.

Senior DTC officials said the department has decided to add 300 such buses in its fleet. Officials said tender will be invited soon and hoped that new buses will start coming within six months.

Each bus, said an official, is expected to cost Rs three million (Rs 30 lakh).

According to officials, there are about 80 inter-state routes in Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan on which DTC run its buses. Though DTC requires about 300 buses to cater to these routes, officials said the corporation has just 60 buses to ply on inter-state routes.

“We have now decided to add CNG-propelled standard floor buses, which are easily available in market,” said a senior DTC official, requesting anonymity.

A Day on the bus

According to DTC officials, from February 8, every second Monday of the month will be celebrated as ‘Bus Day’. “About 200 officials will travel in buses. They will talk to passengers and take their views on the service,” a DTC spokesperson said.
