The BCI had cancelled its affiliation in 2014 over poor infrastructure and violation of norms. After that, a law faculty student Tarun Narang and others moved court. He had also opposed the university’s proposal to shift all three centres to a new building.

The court had in May ordered the law centre to install infrastructure such as white/black boards, furniture in classrooms, halls, office and staff rooms and plug deficiencies pointed out by the Delhi Fire Service by June 28.

After all this is done, the BCI will inspect the new building between June 29 and July 7. The council had also issued a show-cause notice to DU in this regard on May 27.

The new building located at Chattra Marg near the Arts Faculty at north campus will be used as the university law centre along with the already existing law faculty, starting this year.

The high court had said the university’s three law centres will function from both the new building and law faculty. The court appointed joint registrar Deepak Vats as the nodal officer to ensure the building is ready for occupation.

The university has to now ensure the infrastructure in the existing law faculty and the new building meet BCI norms.

The court had said it was not satisfied with the progress the university had made in the regular appointment of assistant professors.

An official from the law faculty said they were working to fulfill the conditions before the new academic session begins on July 24.
