DU serves notices to 3 college principals

A day after DU’s vice-chancellor (V-C) Dinesh Singh paid a surprise visit to four colleges of North Campus — Hindu, Kirori Mal, Daulat Ram and Ramjas — the principals of three of the four colleges were in for a rude shock.

The university has served the principals of these four colleges showcause notices for not just being absent on the first day of the new semester, but for failing to conduct classes for most of the courses as well.

“DU has a zero-tolerance policy for this kind of an attitude. As principals, it is their duty to ensure classes take place as per schedule and timetables are put up on the notice boards,” said Sudhish Pachauri, dean of colleges, DU.

The University has also decided to issue notices to 63 colleges, asking them to furnish all the details of their timetables. “We will now ensure that timetables of each course are updated on every college’s website. Along with this, a hard copy of the same must also be put up on the college notice board,” added Pachauri. While the principals of these colleges were not available for comment, the Delhi University Teacher Association (DUTA) has reacted very strongly to this move.

“We condemn the manner in which the V-C has conducted this inspection. Even he knows it takes almost 15 days for everyone to settle down in a new term. He is targeting teachers and has been systematically attacking them because our movement has affected him adversely,” said Abha Dev Habib, member, DUTA.
