DUTA goes into dharna mode

The teachers association of Delhi University (DU) on Tuesday held the first of a series of planned protests against the varsity administration for its “indifference” to their crucial demands and the “unilateral decisions” announced by the Vice-Chancellor.

The teachers backed by the Delhi University Teachers Association (DUTA) kicked off the protests from colleges of the North campus, congregating during the day and even inviting students to their fold.

Day-long ‘working dharnas’ were held in Daulat Ram, Hans Raj, SGTB Khalsa, Kirorimal, Miranda House, Hindu and Ramjas colleges, among others.

The coming three days will see protests in the south, east as well as west campus colleges.

The teachers have embarked on a war path over a series of issues revolving around policy decisions announced by the varsity as well as Ministry of Human Resources Development. Another major issue that has emerged in recent days has been the “marks scam” in the semester system with teachers alleging a faulty mechanism of marks moderation on the part of the University administration that resulted in first year semester students scoring unusually high marks.
