East Delhi will soon have a picnic spot where children will be able to enjoy boating and also indulge in adventure activities such as rock climbing, trampoline, zapping and tarzan rope.

The Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation (DTTDC) are coming up with a soft adventure park at Sanjay Lake near Mayur Vihar in east Delhi.
Senior DTTDC officials said they had already started work on the adventure park and it was likely to be completed by February 2012.
The information was given by chief minister minister Sheila Dikshit in reply to a question in the Vidhan Sabha. Apart from soft adventure sports, the park will also have Burma Bridge across the lake, bungee tower, a restaurant atop the tower and an open amphitheatre.
One of the longest lakes in Delhi, Sanjay Lake already offers leisure boating facility.
"The Sanjay Lake Park will come up as one of the most sought after picnic spots. Since the park is located just off the national highway (NH24) and is very close to Akshardham, we expect a huge footfall here. East Delhi, in any case, does not have a good picnic sport," said a senior DTTDC official.
"We started the construction in April 2010 and are likely to complete it in February 2012."
The project will cost DTTDC Rs 7.84 crore, an official said.
The adventure park will also have four small parks based on four seasons — spring, summer, autumn and winter. The small forest around the Sanjay Lake has about 400 trees and the corporation has proposed to plant another 400 trees in the area.
Though the proposal to re-develop Sanjay Lake and set up adventure activities has been in place for more than five years, it is now the DTTDC that has taken up the job to develop it.
Senior DTTDC officials said they had additional land of about six acre from the DDA. The union ministry of tourism has also provided central financial assistance of Rs 4.51 crore.
