EC to keep tab on paid news

The Election Commission has set up a cell to monitor election expenditure of candidates including through the paid news syndrome. The Election Expenditure Monitoring Cell will start work with Bihar's six-phased assembly polls starting October 21. HT reports.

During the Editors Guild of India, Chief Election Commissioner S Y Quraishi said the cell would monitor the expenses of candidate.

While expenditure observers would keep a tab on the candidates expenses, including on manipulation of news, district and state level panels comprising journalists, expenditure observers and other persons would keep an eye on the media and report to the EC.
