Bharat Ram worked towards ensuring meaningful education for children with disabilities and those from underprivileged backgrounds.

She worked closely with visually impaired children since 1968 as part of the Blind Relief Association.

She was also a member of Board of Governors for Lady Shri Ram College.

Bharat Ram was suffering from cancer.

Calling her death a big loss, the principal of Lady Shri Ram College, Meenakshi Gopinath, said, "She combined the best in Indian tradition and a cosmopolitan world view. She was a poised and beautiful person whose compassion is unparalleled."

"Her life reflected the true spirit of philanthropy. Never did she utter a nasty word for anyone. Even when she was in great pain, she handled it with great grace and dignity. She was, till the end, concerned about the well being of the people who were taking care of her. She was a true aristocrat," Gopinath, who knew Bharat Ram for over three decades, added.

Her funeral will be held at the Lodhi Road crematorium at 11 am on Thursday.
