Depressed over her prolonged ailment, a 78-year-old woman allegedly committed suicide here in the Capital on Wednesday. The incident was reported from Rohini Sector 3.

The deceased has been identified as Mangala Devi. The police said that she allegedly killed herself in the afternoon at 2.30pm.

“She set herself afire after pouring kerosene over herself. She was living with her son and daughter-in-law who were not in the house when she killed herself,” said a senior police officer on the condition of anonymity, as he was not authorised to speak to the media.

The police said that after seeing smoke coming out of the house the neighbours broke open the door and rushed her to a nearby hospital where she was declared brought dead.
