Eminent historian AR Kulkarni dies

Former chairman of ICHR and eminent historian Prof AR Kulkarni died in Pune on Sunday. Kulkarni, 86, died at a local hospital this afternoon. He was suffering from throat cancer and was ailing for last one year, sources close to him said.

Former chairman of ICHR and eminent historian Prof A R Kulkarni died in Pune on Sunday.

Kulkarni, 86, died at a local hospital this afternoon. He was suffering from throat cancer and was ailing for last one year, sources close to him said.

He is survived by wife and two daughters.

Kulkarni, a scholar in Maratha history, was one of the founder members of Indian Council of Historical Research. He was the chairman of ICHR from 1978 to 1982.

He was the president of Indian History Congress in 1992, the year Babri Mosque was demolished.
