Enemy property to incorporate cabinet point

The Union Cabinet is expected to clear promulgation of a fresh version of the Enemy Property (Amendment and Validation) Ordinance on Tuesday, a day after the first version of the ordinance lapsed.
The fresh version of the ordinance incorporates amendments moved by Home Minister P Chidambaram to drum up support for the legislation, first amongst Muslim MPs and later the Bharatiya Janata Party.
The first set of amendments withdrew provisions nullifying all judicial verdicts, benefiting lawful heirs of Pakistani nationals who owned properties in during the 1965 war and later.
Concerns by the BJP that it would enable owners of hundreds of properties to evict their occupants prompted the home ministry to add a proviso that the legal rights of tenants/occupants of enemy properties would remain unaffected. The BJP, however, wasn't satisfied.
BJP leader L K Advani met the PM on Monday and discussed the Ordinance again.
