Five-hour search leads to nothing

A CBI team searches the sewers and drains in L-block of Jalvayu Vihar for the murder weapon and the mobile phones of Aarushi and Hemraj.

Six days after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) took over the probe of the Noida-double murder case investigators are still struggling for a breakthrough.

On Friday, a CBI team accompanied by another dozen men (safai karamcharis) searched the sewers and drains in L-block of Jalvayu Vihar for the murder weapon and the mobile phones of Aarushi and Hemraj. After nearly a five-hour search operation nothing was found, but the drains had been cleaned up.

The agency had undertaken a similar exercise during the probe of the Nithari serial killings case when they had recovered human bones and skeletal remains from drains outside the house of the suspects.

The operation was undertaken as it was suspected that the killer might have disposed of the weapons and mobile phones in the nearby drains or bushes. The bushes and garbage dumps in areas surrounding Talwar’s house was also searched.

“The drain of Talwar’s house was choked. We had to put a rod into it. It took a long time for the sewer line to be cleaned,” said Rajinder, a sweeper. The main drain along the sector 25 was also searched.

Meanwhile, another CBI team questioned relatives of the Talwars and Hemraj’s son-in-law Jeevan on Friday. Vimla Sarkar, who works as a cook for Talwars was also questioned. “I have told the CBI officials all I knew. From Day 1, I have been saying there was more than one person involved in the murders.”

The agency is also trying to retrieve photographs from the digital cameras recovered from the house. Investigators said a khukri might have been used to commit the murders.

At Dasna Jail, Nupur met her husband, Rajesh for half an hour. Sources said Rs 600 coupon was bought by them from the jail canteen.
