For five days, 14-year-old assaulted child

She was pushed closer to the brink of death, slowly and painfully every day, in less than a week by an ‘unstable’ guardian with abandonment issues. Sources claim that the battered two-year-old child became the object of her 14-year-old custodian’s ire in over just five days.

“Rajkumar had been staying with the 14-year-old girl at a Mahipalpur hotel and left for Mumbai on January 12. By the girl’s admission, there wasn’t a scratch on the child’s body when Rajkumar was around,” said an officer investigating the case.

It was in that five-day period following Rajkumar’s departure to Mumbai and the day she took the baby to a hospital that the girl assaulted the two-year-old out of frustration, loneliness and, ironically, an alleged sense of abandonment.

The 14-year-old girl told police that she panicked as soon as Rajkumar ‘disappeared’ on January 12 and got angrier by the day as a feeling of betrayal set in. She couldn’t help but hurt the toddler at the slightest provocation between January 13 and 18.

“She told us they were living as ‘man and wife’. Rajkumar had given her the impression that they were a married couple, despite the fact that his lawfully wedded wife was staying at a rented flat in the nearby Dwarka,” the officer said.

Rajkumar had decided to leave as soon as he got to know that his son, who happens to be physically disabled, had fallen ill at his in-laws’ home in Mumbai.

This, sources claimed, led to a showdown between him and his 14-year-old lover who felt cheated. The girl had been brought up in a north Delhi orphanage after her vegetable vendor father abandoned her soon after his wife’s death. “Her anger at Rajkumar culminated in the injuries that she claims she inflicted ‘unwillingly’ onthe toddler,” the officer said.

Meanwhile in a desperate attempt to trace him, the police on Monday, have released Rajkumar’s photograph. For the third consecutive day, the taxi driver has continued to evade the cops.
