"He has been weaned off the ventilator but is still in the ICU. His condition is gradually improving," said Rajesh Acharya, senior consultant from the department of neurosurgery, Sir Gangaram Hospital.

77-year-old Khurana was admitted to hospital on July 18 after he suffered a haemorrhage in the right side of the brain. Doctors operated on him for controlling the bleeding.

Khurana had also undergone a minor surgey called tracheotomy two days which is meant to improve the functioning of his lungs.

Senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley and Delhi chief minister Sheila Dixit visited Khurana during the week.
