Sources said a survey of village areas adjoining forest land is already underway to demarcate the unauthorised colonies that have come up on such areas. Despite a survey on 10 villages being completed, surveyors are facing problems in getting information about six villages as records are not readily available.

"No proposal of de-notifying forest land has been made so far even as announcements of regularising colonies on forest land have been made," said a senior Delhi government official.

Officials said that in case a colony is on the Ridge area, the government will have to seek permission from the Supreme Court as well.

A meeting was held on Wednesday, where urban development minister Arvinder Singh directed the revenue department to start a new survey of villages in south and north Delhi.
