A 30-year-old German national tried to commit suicide by jumping from the departure ramp of Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) late on Thursday night.

The man, identified as Peter Helmet Seidel, climbed the ramp near gate number 8 of departure and jumped towards the parking.
A CISF personnel who saw him climbing the ramp immediately informed other agencies, including police. He was rushed to the AIIMS trauma centre. Seidel's condition is said to be critical with multiple fractures and head injuries.
"At 1:30am Seidel jumped from the ramp. No suicide note was recovered from him and we have so far been unable to establish the reason of suicide. He is currently not fit to give a statement," said a senior police officer.
Police have recovered a bag from the spot with his passport and ticket. According to the documents recovered from him, he had arrived in India on July 24 on tourist visa and had also booked a ticket back home on August 10.
"We have recovered a ticket to Bahrain by Gulf air from him. He was identified through his passport," the officer said.
Police have informed the German embassy about the incident. Representatives of the embassy are trying to contact his family members.
“Before jumping from the ramp, he was seen walking in the area for over 15 minutes. Cameras installed there captured him walking outside the departure hall. We have asked for the CCTV footage of the taxi lane to trace the taxi in which he came to the airport. Through that we can trace the place where he was last staying," the officer added.
A case of attempt to suicide has been registered.
