The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has decided to revise its policy of issuing and renewing trade and storage licence.

The civic agency has estimated that there are eight lakh traders in the city but only 55,000 are registered. Because of this the civic agency has been losing out on revenue generation to the tune of Rs 100 crore.

“Most traders find the procedure for obtaining licence cumbersome and time-consuming and therefore are hesitant to obtain one. It also affects our revenue generation,” said Mayor Kanwar Sain.

The Mayor added that the trade profile of the city has undergone vast transformation in the last 50 years since the enactment of the Delhi Municipal Act (DMC) Act.

“But these have not been so far covered under the existing trade licensing or storage policy of the civic body,” he said.

Those who fail to register will be fined Rs 100 per day.
