DMRC is considering a steep hike in parking charges — in some cases even double the fee — for single use at the 95 lots that it has adjacent to stations. “The daily parking charge would be doubled. The proposed revision would require car-owners to pay R20 instead of R10 for the first six hours, R30 from R15 for up to 12 hours and R50 from R25 for more than 12 hours,” according to a source.

The monthly parking charges will also be increased from R625 for cars and R300 for two and three-wheelers, but the new fee structure is yet to be worked out.

“The proposal for revision is under consideration,” said Anuj Dayal, a DMRC spokesperson.
