If you’re planning to apply to a south Delhi DU college for an economics or finance degree, here’s some important news for you.

The Department of Business Economics which is presently under the Faculty of Applied Social Sciences and Humanities and the Department of Financial Studies which is under the Faculty of Commerce and Business will be merged into a new faculty from the new session.
The new faculty will be named Faculty of Finance and Applied Economics and will be operational from July this year. Though the courses will remain unchanged for this academic year, the next academic session (2011-12) will see some course modifications.
“Since both the departments have overlapping course content it was felt merging them would help create a centre of excellence,” said Professor V.K. Kaul, Department of Business Economics.
“The campus placements too can take place jointly now since the same companies come for recruitments,” Kaul added.
The new faculty will provide courses from both the departments, such as Bachelor in Business Economics, Master in Business Economics, Master in Finance and Control and Bachelor in Business Studies. M.phil and Ph.D programmes will also be offered.
For the first time a joint entrance test for Bachelor of Business Studies (BBS), Bachelor of Financial and Investment Analysis (BFIA) and Business Economics (BBE) will be conducted on June 6.
The main challenge the new faculty now faces is to fill vacant teaching posts. Presently they have 12 teachers and 18 teaching posts are lying vacant.
