Got a lewd SMS? Just forward it to the police

If you have received an objectionable SMS or MMS, all you need to do is forward the message to 9911135446. Drop your contact number and the police will get in touch with you, reports HT Correspondent.

If someone is bothering you by sending a lewd SMS or an obscene MMS on your mobile phone, there is immediate help at hand.

The Delhi Police on Wednesday launched the unique helpline - 27894455 and toll free number 1090 -- where harassed woman can expect help without even lodging a formal complaint.

If you have received an objectionable SMS or MMS, all you need to do is forward the message to 9911135446. Drop your contact number and the police will get in touch with you.

"There have been several instances when a woman complains that someone is sending her a lewd SMS or an obscene message. Due to family pressure or other social obligations they don't want to give a formal complaint. We will take action against the sender under appropriate sections of law even though she has not given any complaint," said a senior police officer.

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Crime Branch of Delhi Police is looking after the project.
