The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday said the government is fooling people on petrol prices while the oil companies continue to make profit.

BJP spokesperson Rajiv Pratap Rudy said the cut in oil prices announced on Tuesday won't be able to bring down the inflation rate.

"They are fooling people as profits of oil companies... have been increasing. How can the government then hike petrol prices," he said.

Effective Tuesday midnight, the oil companies cut petrol prices by Rs 1.85 per litre, excluding state taxes and levies, which made petrol cheaper by Rs 2.22 per litre in the national capital.
