"The Governor of Jharkhand has told me that he proposed to invite political parties to find out whether anyone of them in a position to form an alternative government," Union Home Minister P Chidambaram said in New Delhi.

"That exercise is underway. He assured that he will send further report by the end of the day," he said.

Both BJP and Congress appear to be exploring the option of government formation.

Farooq has sought opinion of the two parties on the possibility of forming an alternative government after Soren quit last night, having failed to cobble up the numbers ahead of a trust vote.
