The directive came after Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit expressed unhappiness over the upkeep of drainage system in the Capital as overnight heavy showers led to water-logging and subsequent traffic jams.

As rain lashed Delhi, it led to water-logging which resulted in massive traffic jams across the capital. The traffic mess was compounded by malfunctioning of traffic lights in various areas. Water-logging was reported from the carriageway from Naraina to Dhaula Kuan on Ring road, Najafgarh and Mehrauli-Badarpur road.
