The MCD proposes to construct 24 conventional underground multi-level car parking lots in the near future.
Out of these, 14 will be under green land or parks. At all these parks, greenery will be restored when the project is over.

Residents of many areas where the MCD plans to convert parks into parking lots, like Shalimar Bagh, have protested against the move. Will the MCD drop its plans if the residents oppose it?

The MCD endeavours to take the residents' associations, market associations, etc. along with it in the construction of parking lots on green land or parks. In a number of instances, the MCD received requests from the residents' associations to build parking lots in their areas on green land or in parks to ease parking problem in their area.

We definitely take into account public sentiments on such issues. Keeping the views of the residents’ associations in Shalimar Bagh, the MCD decided to relocate the proposed parking lot.
We will continue to give due weightage to public opinion since it is public interest which is the top priority.

Why doesn't the MCD use space other than green areas or parks to build the parking lots? Have you requested the DDA to provide you land?
Out of the 24 conventional underground multi-level car parking lots, the MCD proposes to construct 10 parking lots in spaces other than green areas or parks.

These include market places, community halls, office buildings, existing parking lots, etc.

The MCD has approached the DDA to allocate land for constructing conventional underground multi-level car parking lots.

But it has not been feasible to locate financially viable and suitable pieces of land with the required strategic location, parking area, approachability and other factors.

MCD Commissioner K.S. Mehra refused to comment.
