Gurgaon residents storm power office

The residents staged sit-in demonstrations, demanding that the company upgrade the overloaded distribution infrastructure in their locality, reports Sanjeev K Ahuja.

The tussle between Gurgaon developers DLF and Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam over the maintenance of the power infrastructure took an interesting turn on Tuesday, when irate residents of DLF City stormed the offices of the power company.

The residents staged sit-in demonstrations, demanding that the company upgrade the overloaded distribution infrastructure in their locality, which has been suffering a six-to-12-hour power shutdown a day.

The residents also warned the Nigam that if work did not start in 60 days, they would not only deduct 25 per cent of their power bills, but would also take to the streets.

Led by DLF Qutab Enclave RWA and the Federation of RWAs (FORWA), about 50 residents barged into the office of the Nigam general manager H.S. Rana on MG road.

Dharam Sagar, chairman of FORWA, said, “Most of the 50 transformers are overloaded and have not been upgraded to the current load specifications. The cables and poles are in a pathetic state, resulting in frequent shutdowns, besides wild fluctuations in supply.”

R.S. Rathee, president of the DLF Qutab Enclave RWA, said, “Whenever we made representations to the Nigam for upgrading the system, we had been told that it was the responsibility of the DLF management. Our repeated requests to DLF have not yielded any results either.
