The discrepancy is not new. According to the Central government, the number of persons affected by the disease in Delhi was 6,265. The state government has a total figure of 7,209.

On Friday, the Delhi government’s figure was 250 with three deaths, whereas the Central government data claimed 195 new cases with no death.

“The state department seems to be mixing National Capital Region data with its figures,” said the senior official requesting anonymity. “We track from where the case was reported and accordingly add to a list.”

“Accidentally, a couple of cases from neighbouring states, were added to the state list. But such huge gap isn’t possible,” said Dr Debasis Bhattacharya, state nodal officer for H1N1. “We are checking and report should be ready by Monday.”
