Haryana roadways union agrees to ply buses to Delhi

A decision to this effect was taken jointly in a meeting held between Haryana transport director general Arun Kumar and representatives of the roadways’ workers committee.

In a release issued after the meeting, Kumar said a committee will study the pattern of challans issued by Delhi police. The committee will have five officials from the transport department and an equal number of representatives from the workers’ body.

Members of the committee will visit Delhi and study the challan process in Delhi and, if possible, video-record it, particularly those issued for violating the ‘no parking’ area. Most Haryana roadways buses either pick or drop passengers in ‘no parking’ zones.

The committee will submit its report within three months after which appropriate action will be taken, said Kumar.

Sarbat Singh Punia, president of the, Haryana Roadways workers union, said since the government had agreed to their demands pertaining to “unfair” challans by Delhi police, the strike had been called off. Punia is a member of the study panel.
