You think a woman on a bike is a sure-shot head turner? Get ready for a serious neck strain then, as a groups of female bikers, the Bikernis as they call themselves, get ready to vroom down Delhi roads today. The event, called One Ride, aims to bring together Royal Enfield enthusiasts across the city. “The Bikernis, who’re part of the this event, aim to spearhead women empowerment through the medium of motorcycles, and encourage them to go on adventures they would have never thought of going on, earlier,” says Shabnam Akram, a Delhi Bikerni.

“Though we all own bikes, the joy of riding together as a group is unparalleled. The Royal Enfield is a tough bike that even men find difficult to handle at times. Riding it is a matter of pride. It’s fun to stand out in the crowd, with onlookers looking at us in awe,” adds Akram. Organiser Tarique Afaque says, “Every year, the first Sunday of April is celebrated as One Ride across the world, when all Royal Enfield owners take to the roads to celebrate their bikerhood.” This year, the Delhi team has added a historical twist to it. “We thought it would be a good idea to re-visit the monuments of Delhi during the ride. It will be like a bikers’ date with history.”

The ride will start at 8am from Nehru Place flyover and go around various historical monuments of the city beginning with Tughlaqabad Fort, extending through Qutub Minar, Bahai Temple, Jama Masjid and more, and ending with an ice cream session at India Gate. All those who own a Royal Enfield can become part of this ride.
