Heat wave sweeps across India
It is official now. The country is in the grip of yet another sweltering summer. The mercury hovered around 40-45°C in many parts of the country on Thursday, throwing normal life out of gear. The weather department has predicted higher temperatures, and little prospect of rains.

RAJASTHAN: SRIGANGANAGAR: 45.4°C
Blistering heat abetted by desert storms kept the temperature high across the state on Thursday. Sriganganagar remained the hottest with a maximum temperature of 45.4°C. Jaipur also witnessed its hottest day of the season on Thursday
at 42.7°C.
ORISSA: TALCHER: 45.3°C
Orissa witnessed intense heat wave in the last week, with the temperature crossing 40°C in several coastal and interior areas. The hottest day of the season — 45.3°C —was recorded at the coalmine town of Talcher, about 250 km west of Bhubaneswar, on Wednesday.
ANDHRA PRADESH: RENTICHINTALA: 42°C
Heat wave conditions prevailed in Telangana and parts of coastal Andhra with the mercury hovering between 41 to
42°C. Rentichintala in Guntur registered 42°C, two degrees lower than the previous day.
HARYANA: HISAR: 43.5°C
Intense heat conditions swept the plains of Haryana with Hisar continuing as the hottest place with 43.5°C, four notches above normal level. Bhiwani, too, experienced sizzling heat at 43.2 °C, more than the normal by three degrees.
PUNJAB: PATIALA: 43.1°C
In Punjab, heat prevailed in Patiala, which recorded a high of 43.1°C, up by five degrees. Ludhiana recorded 42.4 °C, four degrees above normal while Amritsar boiled at 42.5°C, up four notches. Hot weather also prevailed in Chandigarh, which recorded a high of 41.3°C, up by two notches from the regular temperature.
HIMACHAL PRADESH: UNA: 44°C
The maximum day temperatures remained two to five degrees above normal in most parts of the state despite rains and thunderstorms. The minimum temperature rose to 19.5°C in Shimla, 6.5 degrees above normal. Una remained hottest in the region with a high of 44°C.
BIHAR: GAYA: 40.9°C
Though Bihar is not facing a ‘heat wave’ condition, the maximum temperature in many parts of the state hovered around 40°C on Thursday. Gaya was the hottest in the state at 40.9°C.
