A low-intensity blast was reported from outside Delhi high court gate number 7 at 1.15pm on Wednesday.

Delhi Police chief BK Gupta, on Monday, claimed that the investigation was going in the right direction and he had put his best men on the job.

“We are waiting for reports from forensic experts and investigations are on the right track,” Gupta said.

In the past five days of investigations, Delhi Police have raided various places, the latest being Meerut where a Special Cell team raided and detained some persons on Sunday.

Police now know that the perpetrators wanted a low-intensity blast to blow up the car.

“The material used in the blast wouldn’t have caused fatalities as the amount of ammonium nitrate was very less,” said a senior police officer requesting anonymity.

Police said 250 gms of explosive was used in the blast and that the idea was to blow up the car, which could have led to further damage.

“But since the bomb didn’t go off properly, it couldn’t even damage the car,” officer added.

Earlier, the Special Cell had detained one person from Pilkhuwa near Ghaziabad. According to sources, special team has questioned over half-a-dozen men from Pilkhuwa, a hub of textile industry.

Police said the powder recovered from the blast site could be the one used by textile workers for dyeing fabrics.
